No ordinary LEGO® builder’s guide, this TECHNIC guide teaches the ins and outs of TECHNIC building, as well as a basic knowledge of mechanical engineering and physics. The concepts in this book, of course, apply to LEGO® building; however, the ideas in this book can be implemented into real industrial practices. Covered topics include finding the center of gravity, building pumps and gear-powered mechanics, basic two-cylinder pneumatic engine, automotive steering, creating pulley systems, and so much more!
This could be a helpful supplement for teaching a basic engineering course with creative and multisensory learners. The fact that the demonstrations in this book use LEGO® pieces makes the projects more cost efficient compared to buying and building the life-size versions of the projects. Rather than showing a book full of just step-by-step pictures for each topic, the book gives in-depth detail of how the mechanics of the item work, what design flaws to be aware of when building, what pieces are helpful and responsible for moving parts, right vs wrong demonstrations, how physics play into the movements of the build, etc. Many of the project recommendations leave plenty of room for creativity in the suggestions. LEGO® builders and engineers of any age or practice could enjoy reading and practicing the ideas within these pages. 403 pgs, pb. This book is not authorized or endorsed by LEGO® group. ~ Brianna
