Description

Eleven-year-old Caje Amis and his father are accustomed to living a rugged life in the Tennessee mountains, even during the rough winters. His father doesn’t like the cabin and cozy life, so the two of them spend their days hunting, trapping, hiking, enjoying nature, and then finding a cozy tree or cave to spend the night in. Although Caje secretly desires a more comfortable and luxurious life, he knows he dare not mention it because his dad won’t live that kind of life. After seeing signs throughout the forest of a harsh winter arriving, Caje and his father decide to temporarily stay with extended family. Even though spending nights in a cabin by the fire is what Caje has always dreamed of, it feels so unnatural to his father and him. After only a few nights, his father leaves to return to the forest without even saying goodbye to his son. Caje has never known how to live life with family or a house full of people before. Will he be able to stick it out in the cabin, or will he return to the forest for fear of being a burden? 131 pgs, pb. ~ Brianna
