Adventures in the Physical World - Level 2 (Let's Talk Science)
Providing an introductory overview of many abstract concepts such as force, motion, and atoms, this creation-based program offers engaging textual information, hands-on investigations, biblically-inspired stories, discussion questions, Bible memory work (with hand actions), and even an easy-to-do Science Notebook. The entire program is packed into a very user-friendly, one volume course. There are three lessons per week, with each lesson taking approximately 20 minutes. Each lesson has a different focus: Learn about the topic, Experience the topic, and Share (apply) what you've learned. Learn days incorporate textual information, stories (a section called Imagine That!), and short Discussion Starters. These are prompts to help you recall the lessons as well as bridge to biblical applications. Stories are based on biblical events and people (Noah and his family in Level 2) but include fictional elements. Experience days are designed for fun with activities that illustrate concepts introduced in the Learn section. For example, a paper plate sundial and edible tectonic plates. Share days include a pull-out activity page(s) for a science notebook the student builds over the year. Handwriting lines are 9/16" with dotted middles. Required supplies include common household items and easily sourced items including bouncy ball, gear set, balloons, 2 bar magnets, Play-Doh®, flashlight, solar system planetary models, 4-5" Styrofoam® ball, modeling clay, and a basic rock and mineral set. Recommended resources to go deeper include: The New Weather Book (012712), The New Astronomy Book (012709), Inside Noah's Ark 4 Kids (001281), Created Cosmos DVD (item 057182), The Geology Book (item 012711), The True Story of Noah's Ark (item 024334) and The Answers Book for Kids Volume 2 (item 045068). (The Geology Book was misidentified in the Text as the New Geology Book . At this time, there is no New Geology Book or plans to update the Geology Book ). Colorfully illustrated, the student pages are reproducible for your family. Uses NIV and NIrV Bible versions.
Adventures in the Physical World is an early elementary science curriculum designed to instill a love for science and bring the Bible to life. Through hands-on investigations and biblically inspired stories, students will explore and experience God's fascinating world as they study energy, force, simple machines, matter, astronomy, meteorology, and geology. Their faith will grow as they discover they learn that science supports what they read in the Bible.
Adventures in the Physical World is hands-on fun, easy to prepare for, and it will encourage your student's curiosity! Second grade level students can complete the lessons in approximately 20 minutes. This one-year course is designed to be studied three times a week.
Children are never too young to be captivated by science! Each one-year course engages children through creation-based textual information, hands-on investigations, biblically inspired stories, opportunities to engage your child in meaningful discussions, Bible memory work, and even an easy-to-do Science Notebook. User-friendly, the Course Books provide everything necessary for teaching, including reproducible (for your family) student pages: appealing textual information, stories, materials list, daily/weekly lessons, notebook pages, memory verse sheets, and helpful tips. Hands-on activities use household or easy to find items (see individual level for more information). Both a master materials list for the entire year and weekly lists are provided. Not just colorful, but beautifully, subtly colorful; perforated student pages include textual information, stories, coloring/drawing sheets, occasional mazes, and dot-to-dots as well as handwriting practice in the lower levels. Introductory information includes course objectives and an overview, along with helpful tips and a weekly schedule. Lessons will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, increasing to 30 minutes in Level 3. Level K is two days per week; with three days per week planned for Levels 1 and 2, and five days per week schedule for Level 3 and 4. Designed with homeschool families in mind, each level encompasses two age ranges or grade levels, so children close in age can learn together. Level K through Level 2 are interactive for families to learn together. Level 3 and Level 4 provide conversational lessons, supporting students in the transition toward independent learning. Each Coursebook is softcover, 3 hole-punched and reproducible for immediate family use.
