Will the 2nd edition student book work with the 1st edition teacher guide?
Yes, you should be able to use a 2nd edition student book with the 1st edition teacher guide. The primary difference between the two editions is the change of one of the primary resources.
Is there a chemistry kit for experiments that you would recommend purchasing to go along with this book?
There is a kit that you can buy from Elemental Science .com that has everything you’d need for all of the experiments. But most of the needed items are household items. There is a list on the above mentioned website so that you can see.
This looked like it would be more interesting as it's a hands-on approach to learning instead of just reading dry. materials

We use this book in our homeschool coop class. It is a great book, easy to follow and fun for the children.
