Mastering Algebra - Math 76 4th Edition USB Drive
These flash drives hold the same content as the Mastering Algebra DVD courses and can be used on a PC or Mac computer or on a Smart TV with a USB connection. Please note however, the USB will not work on a Chromebook running the Chrome operating system.
In the videos, Mr. Reed doesn't go through the actual problems found in the texts, but if you have a student who would benefit from a thorough explanation of each lesson, these videos would work well. You can tell by the length of some of the lessons that the explanations are a little more detailed than other supplemental teaching aids. I enjoyed watching the lessons with Mr. Reed's relaxed presentation, as he encourages and reassures the students that math doesn't have to be hard. Each level of the series begins with a short introduction which explains placement and the Saxon methodology. There is a session for every lesson found in the Saxon textbook, and students will need to read the information found in the text before watching the video. Everything Mr. Reed presents in his sessions comes from the lesson in the text, and he also mentions alternative methods along with interesting comments. Lessons range in length from 5 to 25 minutes depending on the concept. He offers step-by-step instruction of the daily concept with samples for clarification. Mr. Reed's explanations are simple and make sense as he draws on a whiteboard and gives pertinent illustrations. This series is a good alternative for the student who responds better to a person making the presentation as opposed to just reading about it. ~ Donna
The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.
Saxon Math is a user-friendly math program that takes an incremental approach – teaching a new mathematical concept every day while
constantly reviewing previously covered concepts in “mixed practice”
problem sets. The learning has time to sink in instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Children can work more
independently beginning with 4th grade– there are no manipulatives
or teacher editions; information is directed to the student within the
student text. Lesson Reference Numbers are placed by each mixed
practice problem in the student text so students can easily refer to
the lesson(s) where they first learned the concept. A solution manual
takes you step-by-step from the initial problem to the solution, which is a
big help, especially in the higher levels.
Featuring the same methodology as previous editions plus enhanced mathematical content, Homeschool Kits contain a non-consumable student edition textbook, consumable tests and worksheets for one student, and a solutions manual. All three components of the Homeschool Kit come softbound. The Student Edition Text uses a two-color page layout, as opposed to the black and white pages of prior editions. Tests and Worksheets include a significant amount of fact drill practice, course tests, as well as various forms for recording student progress. Solutions Manual contains solutions to all problems in the text and tests.
What's covered in this level: For use by sixth graders who have completed Saxon 6/5 or who have
placed into Saxon 7/6. Decimals, fractions, number lines, measurement,
area, perimeter, volume, place value, solid figures, percent, ratio, unit
conversion, probability, angles, coordinates.
Middle School Homeschool Kits contain a non-consumable Student
Edition (textbook), consumable Tests and Worksheets for one student,
and a Solutions Manual. Tests and Worksheets also include fact drill practice, course tests, and activity sheets to use with Investigation lessons, and
various other forms.
