Young children have inquiring minds as they try to make sense of the world around them. This curriculum seeks to answer heartfelt questions and give children a biblical framework to help them develop strong Christian character while learning biblical truths. It is a collection of biblical doctrines assembled into a question-and-answer format. Along with learning sound doctrine, children also learn Christian virtues and scripture memorization while enjoying a wide range of activities.
Included in the kit are the Leader Guides (3 volumes), a Resource Book, and 4 each of the New City Catechism for Kids books that include the 52 question and answers used in the curriculum. (These books are also available to purchase separately for each student). The well-organized Leader Guides contain the 52 question and answer lessons, a Bible passage, materials needed for the lesson, discussion and question time, focus time on a specific virtue, activities, and teacher notes. Each part of the lesson has a time symbol suggesting the amount of time leaders should allow for each part to be completed. The guides include lesson outlines for a 75, 45, or 30-minute class time. Memorization is a key element of the curriculum and activities will help children learn and memorize the scripture and questions. The Resource Book is a companion to the guides. There are visual resources as well as reproducible activity sheets. Directions on how to use the resource book are in the leader guides.
This is a very thorough yet straightforward teacher-led curriculum that could be used for homeschool, Sunday school, or co-ops. It is intended to begin using at Question 1 and continue until Question 52. This can be taught straight through in a year by covering one lesson a week or can be broken up into how it best fits your schedule. Going through this program, children will surely gain an understanding of essential doctrines for the Christian faith and be taught how to love God and others.
