Use alongside any composition program: the 125 trait-based lessons divide into 5 units that each contain five weeks of instruction. Each lesson identifies the writing convention, highlights a skill, and then includes a teacher lesson plan, reproducible student pages and a writing prompt. Correlated to current standards, the instruction is scaffolded and provides grading rubrics (with directions for use). Pages are grouped by these 6 traits and are indicated on the bottom margin: ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and conventions. Daily assignments are manageable and varied.
