Big & Fun Microscope (Kids First Level 1)
Start "em young looking at the wonders of the biological world through this 8X microscope. This unit has a couple of advantages over the typical 5X "scope for young children. Besides the greater magnification, the slides are arranged with 3 images per slide that are related. First is an image recognizable to the naked eye, followed by two magnified images of parts of the same item. The Experiment Manual provides all the info you would expect in a user manual, but also includes a 16-page story that incorporates the use of the slides. This helps the child see the images in context. Correct placement of the slide into the slide holder is assured by notches on the slides and a directional arrowhead, with geared movement of the slide under the microscope. Light under the image is powered by 2 AAA batteries (not included). One of the lenses can easily be removed to act as a 2X magnifying glass. What's not to like?
This big, colorful microscope was designed specifically to enable young kids to have successful microscopic viewing experiences, and to be a fun tool for early biological investigations. The 8x magnification power is appropriate for this age group, who often have trouble adjusting their eyes to see images at higher powers. The extra wide eyepiece and battery powered, light-up slide stage also make viewing images through the microscope easy. The microscope comes with a unique slide holder, 24 printed slides, and one blank slide. Each printed slide features one object at three magnification levels, so kids can relate a recognizable object, like a feather or bee, with two different magnified images of the object. The 72 slide images give kids a lot of things to investigate. The 32-page, full-color manual is set up as an illustrated storybook, making it fun for adults and children to read together, while also instructing them how to use the microscope. As you read the story, you can find the slides of the objects that appear in the story and view them through the microscope. The blank slide can be used to view other objects at 8x magnification. This introductory series of lessons is designed to give kids an effective and fun introduction to microscopy and microscopic biology. The manual explains the parts of the microscope, how to use it, and gives scientific explanations of the images on the printed slides. Observe biological specimens from animals like a feather, skin, hair, dragonfly wing, and fly eye; biological specimens from plants like a mushroom spore, kiwi seed, lichen, pollen in honey, and flower stamen; and other specimens from everyday life like table salt, sugar, and a zipper.
This great new series is for your youngest engineers and scientists. Level 1 is for ages 3 to 5, and level 2 is for 5 to 7. This is a brand new line for Thames and Kosmos and is intended to introduce young learners to science and math concepts while also developing fine motor skills and visual/spatial reasoning. At level 1, the building is accompanied by an engaging storybook (24 pages in length), pretend play, and simple activities. The activities reflect the content of the story line and use chunkier building pieces that are great for smaller hands. Each kit comes nicely packaged in a durable storage container.
Level 2 takes children to the next level of science there are no storybooks, but a detailed 48-page, illustrated guide book comes in every kit. These kits introduce children to the scientific method and teach science basics using hands-on experiments. Level 2 kits do not have a storage container.
