Language arts programs listed in this section cover most areas of language arts (reading/literature, writing, grammar, spelling and handwriting) in one curriculum, although some skill areas may be covered with less intensity than a focused, stand-alone course.
Category Description for Christian Light Language Arts
This resource is a traditional language arts series that provides grade appropriate instruction in phonics, spelling, vocabulary, grammar (including diagramming), word usage, penmanship, dictionary/library skills, all forms of composition (formal and creative), book reports, literature analysis, and poetry over the course of the series. Thorough and comprehensive in terms of coverage, user-friendliness is fundamental to the series, which allows the student to work independently except in the early elementary grade levels. Teacher oversight is expected but made easy by teacher materials that provide answers, grading rubrics, and lesson plans (amount of detail declines with grade level). Student materials are attractive and offer color highlights with some illustrations. The new Sunrise 2nd Edition offers full-color illustrations with instruction sequences in color-shaded boxes. All content reflects a conservative Christian viewpoint. Course components vary a bit with grade level but always include sets of ten magazine-size, consumable student worktexts (LightUnits) coupled with teacher materials. Quizzes and unit tests are part of each LightUnit.
The LightUnits Set Teacher Materials vary with the edition and grade level but, in general provide daily lessons, answers, alternate tests, and grading helps.

The Sunrise Edition of Christian Light Education Language Arts - Literature II - (Grade 12) coordinates with the text/anthology, Perspectives of Truth in Literature. The course examines short stories (as unfolding truth), poetry (as expressing truth), and essays (as expounding truth); covering vocabulary, creative writing, and literary techniques. The LightUnits Set (10 magazine-size consumable worktexts) provides the instructional/textual material as well as student exercises plus quizzes and tests. There are 16 lessons per unit. Unit tests are in the middle and can be pulled out. The Teacher Materials provide brief daily lessons and suggestions for additional books plus alternate tests with answers (in case a student needs to retake a test). Coil-bound, there are no reduced copies of student pages. The Answer Key Set lists the answers to the student exercises in the LightUnits and includes answers to the quizzes and tests (pull-out section in center of book).
