The Instructor Handbooks include an introduction that reviews the SYS philosophy, outlines the five developmental stages, and provides curriculum sequence and placement guidelines. The rest of the book contains the specifics for that particular level. These include a Getting Started section, Lesson-by-Lesson Instructions, a Weekly Activity Guide, and a Frequently Asked Questions section that addresses random issues that may arise.
An Answer Key for each level is included in the back of the Instructor's Handbook. These answer keys are full-color and show the highlighting and underlining (in appropriate colors) that the student is being asked to do (which also simplifies the grading process). Each level has an online page with links to additional materials and resources. The website and an access code are included with each Instructor Handbook.

The Ancient Achievements Instructor's Handbook contains an introduction to the philosophy behind Spelling You See and the five developmental stages of spelling. The Handbook also contains a "Getting Started" guide and detailed instructions for each lesson, including suggested activities that coordinate with the weekly Spotlight. At the back of the Handbook there is more information about each activity, answers to frequently asked questions, the passages for dictation, and an answer key. In Ancient Achievements, students will read about fascinating topics from long ago, such as cave paintings, Viking ships, and Marco Polo. This is the last level in the skill development stage of spelling. It provides continued word practice using the core activities of chunking, copywork, and dictation while gradually increasing the reading level. At the same time, a new Spotlight feature introduces students to interesting facts about words. The Instructor's Handbook offers optional activities to help prepare students for the next two stages of spelling.
For the student who can spell many common words confidently but may not be ready for the more advanced content of the next level. Drawn from America's history and people, passages in this level increase gradually in reading difficulty. Resources include the Passages, an Answer Key, a Glossary, a Bibliography, and an Index of Topics.
