The Americana Student Pack includes two student workbooks and a pack of erasable colored pencils. Each of the 36 lessons is divided into five parts, A through E, and includes two facing pages. Each day the instructor reads the passage together with the student. Students will also "chunk" the appropriate letter patterns indicated for that day's lesson and have opportunities for copywork and writing from dictation throughout the week.
In Americana, students will read nonfiction stories about American history and culture while learning to spell new words in an interesting context. Americana utilizes the core activities of Spelling You See: chunking, providing hands-on experience with English's many irregular letter patterns; copywork, requiring the brain to pay attention to details in print; and dictation, giving an opportunity for student to demonstrate decoding and encoding in a meaningful context.

I have been using SpellingYouSee for several years now with my four boys. Except for level A (which was NOT a hit though we slogged through it), we have been *very* satisfied with the program. My oldest who has already completed it, is a very good speller. The program is very easy to use, does not take much parent time (although you do need to follow the directions on how to teach it) and has excellent results. We've tried several other programs but this is the best. It's worth the somewhat high price.

We have tried many Spelling programs and this is the only one my daughter likes. She likes to use the colored pencils and she likes that it is short stories instead of just a list of words.
