Dice Throne Season One - Battle Box 2: Monk v Paladin Game
- Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
Description
Monk: He looks inward for strength with meditation and tranquility, along with using Evasive and Cleansing defensive tools. He is calm, but when provoked, he can use well-executed fist strikes, combo strikes, and tempest rushes and inflict a knockdown offense. His central tool throughout the game is Chi, which he liberally uses to reduce damage inflicted on him but also to increase attack strength on his opponents, proving that a well-balanced plan can lead to victory.
Paladin: He carries a sword of righteousness with dignity and believes it affords him divine protection and victory. Paladin believes in a strong defense but can cut an enemy’s attack force in half, prevent incoming damage, or return damage when attacked first. He can also defend himself well by making his attacks “undefendable” with his “protect status” effect. Paladin’s character is more complex than Monk’s, as he needs to master more tools to balance out his predominately defensive strategy.
In my most recent play with these characters, the liberal use of Chi by Monk did not overcome Paladin’s sword but there were times that I thought the battle could go either way. This battle box by itself is for two players with a 30-minute gameplay but can be mixed and matched with other game sets in the Dice Throne Series for more variety. Adding other sets can increase player count to six. Possible battle configurations are 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2 or free-for -all play. ~ Marsha
Each year, the Mad King hosts a tournament of champions with the greatest prize a hero could ever want: The Throne. Will you be the one bold enough to take it? Dice Throne is a competitive or team-based dice rolling combat game with variable player powers.
A heart-pumping, fast-playing game of skilled card play and dice manipulation. The game is played over a series of rounds where you will be rolling your hero's dice up to 3 times. You will use the combination of dice symbols or numbers to activate your hero's abilities to attack your opponent(s).
Dice Throne is a game of intriguing dice, tactical card play, powerful heroes, and unique abilities. It's a fast-paced 2-6 player combat game (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2, or free-for-all). Select from a variety of heroes that play and feel completely distinct from one another. Attack opponents and activate abilities by rolling your hero's unique set of five dice. Accumulate combat points and spend them on cards that have a large range of effects, such as granting permanent hero upgrades, applying status effects, and manipulating dice directly (yours, your teammate's, or even your opponent's).
All heroes are compatible with any heroes from any other season of Dice Throne. Each hero has their own beautiful set of custom dice. Use upgrade cards to improve your hero's abilities as the game progresses. Play action cards strategically to manipulate dice and surprise your foe.
Imagine Yahtzee, but instead of scoring points, the dice are used to fight your opponent! Games begin with each player selecting a character with unique powers. Some deal a lot of damage, some become more powerful as the game progresses, and others rely on special "status effects" to turn the tide of combat quickly. Players then take turns rolling the dice up to three times looking for favorable die results; rarer combinations (such as a Yahtzee of 6's) activate the most powerful abilities. Additionally, players collect cards throughout the game which can be used to upgrade abilities, enhance attacks, or even change the value of dice! The game ends when one player is reduced to zero health.
While the premise may seem like it would get old fast, the innovative design lends itself to endless replayability. Every character plays differently, so every combination of characters is unique. This, paired with excellent art, a quick playing time of just 15-30 minutes, and the constant tension between keeping a mediocre die roll or risking it all for something better, makes every game so darn fun.
Note that all boxes from all seasons can be mixed and matched with all other boxes. Only one set is required to play with two players, though more boxes are needed for higher player counts. Can be played with 2-6 players.
