Covers 1 plus 1 through 9 plus 9. Addition facts are learned in six weeks. 135 pgs, pb.
Publisher's Description of Addition Facts That Stick
A simple, effective program to help your child master the addition facts once and for all, in just six weeks"without spending hours and hours drilling flash cards! Addition Facts That Stick will show you exactly how to teach the addition facts so that your child will remember them for good. Instead of making piles of flash cards and drilling them over and over, you'll use hands-on games and activities (and a few worksheets) to help your child become completely fluent with all of the sums from 1 + 1 = 2 up to 9 + 9 = 18.
Here's how the program works: Your child will focus on one section of the addition table each week, and you'll spend about fifteen minutes per day working on the facts together. On the first day of the week, you will show your child a strategy for solving the focus facts and play a fun game that practices those facts. For the rest of the week, you will play the new game together each day. Your child will also complete a short practice page each day to cement the focus facts and review all the other facts learned so far.
With smart strategies, fun games, and a few quick worksheets, your child will master all the addition facts in just six weeks!
If you are looking for an approach to math that targets a small group of facts rather than practicing all facts at once; that visualizes numbers and uses strategies rather than memorizing answers; and practices strategies to increase speed rather than repeated drill, then look no more! If these modifications to the standard way of learning math facts make sense to you, you'll embrace this program and quickly see why it teaches math facts that actually stick rather than constantly reviewing flashcards. Each week has its own strategy and a similar lesson plan: cover the strategy, introduce the new teaching and game, continue to play the game then complete the practice pages. Everything you need except a few items (small counters, coins, game tokens, playing cards, and a die) are provided in the book: lesson plans, game boards, practice pages (reproducible for families), and an answer key. Addition Facts That Stick covers 1 + 1 through 9 + 9 in six weeks; 135 pgs, pb. Subtraction Facts That Stick covers 2 – 1 through 18 – 9 in eight weeks; 175 pgs, pb, Multiplication Facts That Stick covers facts 1 x 1 through 10 x 10 in ten weeks; 407 pgs, pb. Division Facts That Stick covers facts 1 ÷ 1 through 100 ÷ 10 in ten weeks; 349 pgs, pb. ~ Janice
This was a fantastic program for addition math facts. It provided the repetition needed for automatic recall of math facts, but in a way that was interesting, enjoyable, and actually explained the quick thinking and reasoning behind simple visual strategies. With other kids we have used flash cards, computer programs, drill worksheets, and Kumon books for addition facts, but this was far and above better than any of those. I had 2 seven year olds use this last year, and they did great. Don't try to amend the program, just follow it as scheduled. I think we may use it again this year just to review after our summer break. It was also short enough each day that we could continue our other math curriculum at the same time, although I think the author may recommend against this.

My child has strong number sense but lacks fluency in addition/subtraction facts. I was looking for a resource to reinforce fact fluency while building on the strong number sense he has developed…

I have been looking at this book for weeks and Rainbow Resource had the best price. I am so excited to use this with my kiddo.

Seems a good foundation for learning math.

My 7 and 8 year old have not memorized the addition facts yet. Hope this helps them.

Are these the same activities taken from the author’s Math with Confidence curriculum or are they extra activities that would be beneficial to use alongside the full curriculum?
April W
The activities are similar. I’m using Grade 2 Math with Confidence with my son, we didn’t use it for grade 1 so I can’t speak to that. Addition Facts that Stick is best used during summer break, or if your child is struggling with the facts. Otherwise I don’t think you need it. It would add a lot of extra games and work to the daily math load to use it alongside her curriculum.

Is this a new or used book? Thanks!
