Description
Publisher's Description of All About Reading Level 1 Blast Off Activity Book Color Edition

The 340-page Blast Off to Reading! activity book is a component of the All About Reading Level 1 Student Packet.

Jam-packed with fluency-building activities and practice sheets, this enjoyable and confidence-building activity book equips your child with essential skills and the understanding that reading is fun!

In this full-color activity book, you'll find:

  • An astronomy-themed progress chart to track your child's progress
  • Illustrated activity sheets, including games, Word Flippers, and matching activities
  • Fluency Practice sheets that include new words, review words, phrases, and sentences
  • An astronomy-themed Certificate of Completion

All of the pages are perforated for easy removal, and you'll find that the lesson plans in the Teacher's Manual tell you precisely which pages you need to remove for each lesson.

The Fluency Practice sheets are the most important part of the Blast Off to Reading! activity book. Fluency practice will help your child move from sounding out words letter by letter to instant recognition of words. The lessons include many tips and techniques for helping your child develop fluency.

Note: It is recommended that each child have his own activity book.

Level 1 starts out with a review of letter sounds from the Pre-Reading program but with a difference. From the beginning (letters m, s, p, and a) the letters become words and the student is off and reading. After all letters and short vowels have been re-introduced, lessons cover consonant teams (th, sh, ch, and then later, ck, ng, and nk), final and initial blends, double consonants, a few sight words, compound words, and plural words. The level ends with six lessons covering the additional sounds of several letters (a, i, c, o, g, e, u, y, and ch) and open/closed syllables. Activity Book is Blast Off to Reading. Readers for this level are Run, Bug, Run!, The Runt Pig, and Cobweb the Cat.

With its 2019 edition, all materials are in full color and although the stories and activity books are essentially the same, the Teachers Manuals have been expanded with additional teaching tips and hands-on learning activities.

Levels 1-4 have Materials Kits which include Teacher Manuals and Student Packets for each level. If you have not used the program at a previous level, you will also need a set of Letter Tiles and the All About Reading Review Box. If you already have them from a previous level, you do not need to purchase these again.

good product
Initially thought it would be too much busy work. But actually seems to be worth the effort of cutting stuff out - allows them to review the material in a different way. Practice sheets too long for 4yo, but they give good ideas on different fun ways to do it. Color is nice. Good paper, perforated for easy tearing.

AAR1 Color Edition is a nice upgrade!
My older kids lamented why their workbooks hadn't been in color when they went through this program, but my current 1st grader & I are enjoying the color edition - it was very nicely done.

I chose this for my rising 1st grader because I've heard good reviews about it. This is our first year homeschooling.
