Type Write Touch Typing CD
Proper fingering and keyboarding is a skill for life, not just for school. Everyone here at Rainbow Resource types every day, and proper fingering makes the work much easier and quicker. The Type Write Touch Typing is a CD-ROM with PDFs of exercises to help you learn and practice.
Type Write Touch is a beginning typing program for upper elementary through high school. This is not software, it is e-books or pages for you to print out: students then practice typing in any word processing program Word, Notebook, etc. After printing the pages, put them in a folder or binder and use them in the order of the assignments listed and for additional review whenever you need it. There are two files on this CD-ROM Type Write Touch Typing e-book and Typing Practice Pages. Type Write Touch Typing teaches proper fingering beginning with the home row letters, then home row words, the letter e' and e-words, then i' and i' words, etc. Fingering is taught one letter or key at a time beyond the home row letters all the way through z'.
Typing Practice Pages are intended for 90 days of practice (one semester). Most of them are in sets of two day 1 is a fact page and day 2 is review. There are also 17 pages of rhymes and one page of alphabet sentences. If using this for a five-day school week do two sets of facts pages per week along with one page from the rhymes.
This program was written by a homeschooling mom, so you don't have to worry about questionable content safe for all ages.
Type Write Touch Typing CD
Type Write Touch Typing is a CD containing a keyboarding course in two parts, in the format of files for two printable ebooks. It is not software; students look at the pages while typing in any word processing program (such as Microsoft Word).
The first part, Type Write Touch Typing, teaches all the letters and common punctuation in an easy, sequential manner. The second part, Typing Practice Pages, provides many printable pages to be used as typing practice, to gain increased skill and speed with typing, after the keyboard finger positions have been learned. Going through each of these parts is estimated to take 90 days, so the material of the entire course can be covered in one 180-day school year. This course is recommended for students in upper elementary grades or middle school.
Type Write Touch Typing (part one of the typing course)"
Each new letter introduced has three pages to use for typing practice: letter blends, words, and short stories.
The home row (middle row of keys) is introduced first. Then other letters are added one at a time, while continually practicing the letters already learned.
The exercise pages are to be printed out and stored in a folder (this allows the student to easily go back and forth between pages"they are not always used consecutively).
Pages can be placed on a propped-up clip board or small easel next to the computer, to look at while typing.
There is a syllabus that tells which pages to type each day. On most days, two different pages are typed; this takes around 10 - 15 minutes.
Something that makes this course different from other typing programs is the creative short stories that are typed as part of learning the finger positions. For example, the sentences for letter "u" tell about a car:
"The car's trunk clunks shut The car's key turns. The car's engine runs. The car puffs fumes and charges ahead in the blinding dust."
Here are the sentences for letter "m":
"Mary's dress is a mess. It has meringue and mustard, speckles of mud, vinegar and custard, banana mush, little drips of marmalade, sticky glue, and smudged fudge."
Typing Practice Pages (part two of the typing course)
Once familiarity with finger positions is in place, students still need some regular time spent practicing typing, for increased proficiency. Using these practice pages, about topics from science and geography and also literature (traditional rhymes), is an easy way to continue in developing typing skills. This second part could also be useful for students who have learned the finger positions through a different typing program.
