Publisher's Description of In the Word - John

“These are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.”—John 20:31

Begin your journey to a deeper relationship with God made flesh by exploring His life in the Gospel of John. The In the Word Bible Journal provides an innovative way for you to grow your faith: writing down God’s Word in your own hand!

Developed by Rob Wynalda, Dr. Joel Beeke, and Paul Smalley, each journal features space to write the Scriptures on the right, space for personal applications and notes on the left, and a devotional guide at the end of each chapter. Together, these create the perfect tool to help you go deeper in your personal Bible study.

Each Journal includes a thematic introduction, devotional reflections for each chapter, and experiential questions to help you worship as you write.

  • Provides a simple, innovative way for Christians to go deeper into God’s Word

  • Helps Christian parents leave a legacy in the Scriptures for their children

  • Offers a suite of useful tools to enhance Bible study

Category Description for Journibles: The 17:18 Series

This series takes its name from Deuteronomy 17:18 in which the king is instructed to write a copy of God's word, to carry it with him and read it every day so that he and his descendants may learn to follow the Lord. These nicely bound books are designed to help Bible students of all ages retain more, improve study and leave a legacy for generations to come. As the name implies, this is not a typical journal! Each Journible is designed to write your own copy (in version of your choice) of each Bible book (or books--as in the case of the New Testament letters). Copy down Scriptures on the right page; exact verses are identified in the headers. The left page is designed for your notes, but questions highlighting specific verses are occasionally provided. Questions are thought-provoking and require digging into the Scripture for answer. For example, "How does love cover sin?" "Why does Jude write?" The exterior is bound in black with gold print, pages have quarter-inch rule, and the attached ribbon marks your spot. Create a keepsake allowing review of your spiritual journey, an enhancement for your school's Bible curriculum, or use as copywork practice. I'm looking forward to creating a Journible of my own! Most are sold individually, but the complete PsalmsJournible can be purchased as a 2-volume set. 5.5" x 8.5", approx 200 pp, hc. ~ Ruth

(Publisher Description)

In Deuteronomy 17, Moses is leaving final instructions concerning the future of Israel. As a prophet of God, Moses foretells of when Israel will place a king over the nation (v. 14). In verse 18, the king is commanded to not simply acquire a copy of the law (the entire book of Deuteronomy) from the "scroll publishing house," but to hand write his own copy of the law. Thirty-four hundred years later, educators are "discovering" that students that physically write out their notes by hand have a much greater retention rate than simply hearing or visually reading the information. Apparently, God knew this to be true of the kings of Israel also. From such understanding came the conception of this series of books.

How to Use These Books

  • Each book is organized so that you can write out your very own copy of Scripture. You will be writing the Bible text only on the right hand page of the book. This should make for easier writing and also allows ample space on the left page to write your own notes and comments. From time to time a question or word will be lightly printed on the left page; these questions are to aid in further study, but should not interfere with your own notes and comments.

I love this series! It's a great way to not only to dig deeper into the word but also to leave a handwritten copy of John to the next generation. I highly recommend it.

    Best resource for copywork
I love the 17:18 Series Jounibles! My 2nd and 4th grade students each have their own Journible copy of whichever book it is that our minister is currently preaching through. In preparation for Sunday they are to copy the relevant verses before he preaches, and take sermon notes on those passages on the left-hand page during the church service. This covers our copywork for the week and prepares them for Sunday. Plus, it's a beautiful keepsake of how they are growing in their handwriting as well as their ability to focus in church. I should mention that this is a great resource for people of any age who want to study God's Word. I love that I can remind my children that when they are doing their copywork they are actually writing God's Word on their hearts, and when this world should pass away, His Word on their hearts will never disappear. Simple, effective, valuable, beautiful...and everlasting!

Christian school bible teacher is using this for class

We wanted a Bible study tool that had us reading the Bible, not just someone's thoughts about the Bible, and these fit the bill. We have already done the Mark and Romans Journibles and look forward to…

I'm "journibling" through the Bible. I need all of these to assist in my studies. I enjoy writing out the word of God and these journibles also offer some insightful questions.

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. What an amazing way to hide God's Word in our hearts by writing it out and meditating on it!
