Publisher's Description of Novare Physical Science 3rd Edition
Combining mastery-learning and a unique textbook philosophy, this physical science course helps students break the Cram-Pass-Forget cycle so that they truly learn and retain course material.
This physical science text is designed for grades 6-8. Novare Physical Science is beautiful and durable, and organized around the principles guiding all Novare Science & Math texts: Mastery, Integration, and Kingdom perspective.
Novare
Physical Science is well illustrated and packed with concise information to
help students really get to know the area of physical science. Following the
Novare Middle School Science sequence, Physical Science will be studied in 7th
grade, however, it can be used successfully in grades 6-8. Using a mastery
approach, students learn fewer topics in more depth than typical courses and
review previously learned key concepts. Along with physical science
topics, grade level mathematics, the history behind the science, written and
verbal English language skills are integrated. Students are taught to see God
in creation, while learning current secular scientific theories including the
evolutionary theory. The authors do ascribe to the current secular geological
timeline and age of earth. Required components include the Textbook and Digital Resources. Components sold separately or
packaged together as the Physical Science Program. An optional helpful Lab Kit is sold separately.
I think this is going to work well for us this year. Only reason I am giving this a 4 out of 5 is that it is pretty small print. My kids are dyslexic. I wish that they hadn't packed the page so much. I know it is a bigger book if you don't. But you could always do what Notgrass does for it's history books- use the bigger font and just split it into 2 volumes .

*Perfect!*
As a homeschooling Christian family whose Dad holds a physics degree, we consider this the perfect Physics textbook! It is written in an engaging style and is a fascinating read just to pick up! It spends a considerable time on what science really is and really is not (so important in today's "Trust the Science" world of pseudo-science). Speaks of God, especially in view of the intelligence discernible in the natural world. Not a "young earth" view; fully orthodox with Catholicism. Assumes an intelligent audience. Includes the most modern theories of particle physics.
