Seven Wonders of the World
Need project ideas for a unit study? Do you want your kids to do some hands-on activities with an Ancient Cultures lesson? This resource is here to help. This book contains twenty ideas covering all seven ancient wonders: Great Pyramid, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Colossus of Rhodes, Temple of Artemis, Mausoleum of Helicarnassus, and the Pharos of Alexandria. There are informational factoids, as well as travel tips. (For example, if you visit a McDonald's in Egypt, you can order a McFalafel!). The project ideas vary, but all have good directions and how-to illustrations. As an example, when learning about pyramids, you can re-create the sledges used to move the giant stones using pencils and a heavy book. Kids are given the dimensions of the Great Pyramid, then challenged to calculate how long it would take to walk around the base. To solve, mark off twenty feet, time how long it takes to walk the distance, then do the math. Older kids could easily follow directions in here without parent help and share their finished product with you, but younger kids will need some guidance. If you don't have the time to find project ideas elsewhere, this is a great little book of ideas! ~ Sara
