I like the varied, but predictable approach to this vocabulary series. Each exercise is a different activity that uses/teaches a different skill set. However, each lesson is consistently broken up into seven exercises and the activities rotate so they are not completely brand new each week. My son gets variety yet he also still knows what to expect.
We break it up for the week as follows:
Mon: Exercise 1 & 2
Tues: Exercise 3, 4 & 5
Wed: Exercise 6
Thurs: Exercise 7
Fri: Exam
Vocab usually takes about 15-20 minutes to complete depending on the day.
I didn't give 5 stars as I feel there is still room for improvement. I feel that the words are often a little too easy. Also, they focus on the word based on how it is used in the literary passage. This makes sense and most often the word is used as its most common part of speech. However, there are a few that get a tad confusing because the "common" way of using the word isn't how it's used in the text. That sometimes confuses my son because he thinks of the word as a verb, for example, but in the text it's used as a noun. Not a huge deal and it's good for him to have to reread the passage and think more critically. Overall I like the book.
The teacher manual for level "D" includes the tests and answer keys. However, the test does not "rip out" of the book and the manual specifically says that photocopies are prohibited. I am not certain how they expect you to actually administer the exam! The exams are simple enough so we have taken to giving them orally and my son simply writes his response on a separate paper.
The teacher manual isn't really necessary for correcting the exercises at this level, but it does make it a whole lot quicker and easier! I personally don't want to do each assignment in whole to correct the work so I purchase the teacher manual!

I like that they use authentic text for the kids to use to learn the vocabulary. I feel it makes the learning more authentic, therefore more powerful.
We used it last year 2021 and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great stories and challenging words. We have ordered several of the books that had excerpts in these books.
