Description

Have you found gaps in your student’s math skills and are you wondering how to fix them? Bridge the Gap Math is a supplemental math book that targets specific topics middle school students typically struggle with learning. There are four units: 1) Numbers, 2) Fractions, Decimals, & Percents, 3) Shape & Geometry, and 4) Times Tables, Exponents, & Prime Numbers. Every page is formatted in the same way and focuses on a different math concept. First, the student learns the objective. Next is a short script explaining the concept, “Try” questions for the student to do, and lastly, a self-test comprised of eight questions to ensure student understanding. After each unit is a convenient record-keeping tool called “I can/I know checklist” to check off skills your student has mastered. You can go through the book sequentially or pick and choose what your child needs to work on. Each page takes about 20 minutes to complete. The content is taken from math skills over a range of grade levels, but a grade level is not found anywhere in the book so students working below grade level don’t get discouraged. The “flash facts” included in the back of the book are six pages of rapid-response questions, answers, and quick activities to do as fun warm-ups, mid-lesson breaks, or at the close of lessons. A diagnostic tool, specifically for students at the end of sixth through eighth grades, is also available if you are not sure your child has gaps or needs this book. The book is consumable, but you can also choose to use a separate sheet of paper. Non-reproducible. ~ Gina
