The F6F Hellcat is an American carrier-based fighter that was used extensively during WWII from 1942–1945. It served as the primary fighter for the United States in the Pacific, where it successfully took on the infamous Japanese Zeros. The Hellcat proved essential for establishing air superiority in the Pacific theater, with over 12,000 aircraft being produced. Hellcats featured six 12.7mm M2 Browning machine guns and two 20mm cannons and were capable of firing rockets, dropping bombs, and launching torpedoes.

The F6F Hellcat was designed as a response to the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighters. It was characterized by a solid construction, high firepower and ease of piloting which made it extremely effective in combat. This plane played a key role in the Battle of Midway, the Battle of Leyte and many other campaigns in the Pacific. It was one of the main factors in the dominance of American aviation over the Japanese. Now this Pacific legend will also be available in the COBI collection!
