Raisin in the Sun
First produced in 1959, this landmark play by Lorraine Hansberry was the first play by a black playwright to win the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. A Raisin in the Sun portrays the experiences of the Youngers, a black family living on the South Side of Chicago. As the Youngers struggle to improve their financial situation and realize their dreams, they deal with issues ranging from generation clashes to the civil rights and women's movements.
