Philosophy and History of Origins
Understanding the evolution and creation debate is necessary for young people today. Honestly, as an adult, I find a particular need to understand the science behind the debate; not the plethora of conflicting opinions, but scientific principles and insights of both models of evolution and creation.
Beginning with the premise that the scientific formula has all the answers to the great origins debate, Dr. Scott Hardin, provides a rigorous scientific discourse of creation and evolution. Topically, students are introduced to the history and underlying philosophy of the creation and evolution models, intelligent design, information theory, naturalism, natural selection, Neo-Darwinism, fossils, radiometric dating and much more. Personally, as a former nurse, I found the chapter on drug resistant antibiotics fascinating and applicable to laymen as well as the health care professional. If you are familiar with Dr. Hardin's Biology course, you will notice an overlap of content, as he has expanded upon the teaching from the Creation and Evolution material found in his Biology text. Numerous illustrations both in color and black and white, helpful graphs/charts, and handy research data make this understandable text a valuable asset for families. While not a fully developed semester course (there are no chapter questions or tests available), students could use this as an elective with the parent assigning oral presentations or research projects. An excellent resource to prepare students for college level science study! NIV (1984), ESV and KJV Bible references. 180 pgs, pb.
