Fallacy Detective Workbook Edition
Recently updated, the workbook edition provides students space to record responses to lesson exercises. Learn how to recognize bad reasoning and spot errors in others' logic, and your own. The focus is on practical logic such as fallacies you might encounter in a newspaper. Learn to identify red herrings, circular reasoning, statistical fallacies, and propaganda. Each lesson presents several examples of poor reasoning (often illustrated by cartoons) and then provides a lengthy exercise set. Includes answer key and teaching tips for homeschoolers/private schools at authors' website. Religiously neutral. Not reproducible. 262 pgs. sc.~ Anh/Deanne

If he is gifted, then maybe BUT I would suggest starting with the thinking toolbox first as it is seems to be more appropriate for the 8 to 10 range and THEN do fallacy detective. I found that to be a better starting point for my kids. My 10 year old is a bright kid and very advanced in reading. He is doing fallacy detective now and it is engaging and challenging but not too much for him.
Mallary MThere are questions in the book. As long as you have them write their answers on a separate piece of paper rather than in the book, you could probably get away with one book.
Sarah SMy son completed both in a year. One each semester. He answered the questions after reading each chapter.
cristina tThis is the Workbook Edition and has a 2015 copyright. It has the same content as the previous edition but spaces/lines have been added so the student can write in the book.
JaniceIt seems that we may have just switched to the Workbook Edition - or perhaps our graphics have just caught up. I notice the graphic has changed and the book I brought in from the warehouse has green on top and yellow on bottom and is marked as "Workbook Edition." It has a 2015 copyright.
