This supplemental book helps you expand on the music mentioned in the Memoria Press curriculum guides for K-2. This book gives some background information, instruments used in the piece, composer information, and more, on each piece of music. A few questions for discussion are included and links to Spotify and YouTube playlists for listening to selections. ~ Donna
Publisher's Description of Music Enrichment: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
If you have enjoyed the music enrichment sections of our grade-by-grade Enrichment Guides, you will love our new supplement devoted exclusively to music. For each piece of music scheduled weekly in our Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade Curriculum Manuals, Music Enrichment gives a short backstory on each piece and biographical information for its composer, as well as a few questions for discussion about the music being studied. Teach your child more about what the song is about, interesting facts about the instruments used in the song and how they work together, interesting aspects about the song's structure, and why the composer wrote it.
Purchase of this bookalso includes links to Spotify and Youtube playlists where you can listen to the selections we have chosen, as well as iTunes links if you would like to purchase them.
The Kindergarten level provides instruction in reading, correct pencil grip, letter and number formation, and basic arithmetic counting, adding, subtracting, telling time, and counting money. Children ages 4-6 can use the program if they are reading ready, have the ability to count to 10, print their name, recognize most letters, rhyme words, and segment sounds.
My kids love classical music and are always asking me what the songs are about. So usually I was making something up. But with this resource, you can read what the composer was actually inspired by! It is so neat to attach the history to the songs. Whether my kids are actually storing this information in their little heads or not, I'm certainly enjoying it. And the exposure is good for kids.

Does it come with the music or is it just the book?
Tatyana R
No, it is just a book with a little background info on the various musical pieces, as well as short composer bios and a glossary of musical terms in the back. The book also includes the web address where you can find links to the music selections on YouTube. But there is no actual CD, if that's what you're asking. This music enrichment is very easy to implement. I use it as a guide and pick and choose what we listen to and sometimes find other videos rather than the ones Memoria Press links to – sometimes the "video" is actually just the music playing, whereas we really like to be able to see the musician and/or the orchestra and its instruments. But it is a great way to include music in your lessons and much easier than trying to come up with a list of famous/important musical selections on your own, and can be used for older children as well, not just up to 2nd grade.
