My America: A Poetry Atlas of the United States
Travel the United States without leaving your chair with this beautiful collection of poems. Fifty poems representing a variety of geographic regions are included, each with its own color illustration. The poems are grouped into regional categories: Northeast, Capital (D.C.), Southeast, Great Lakes, Plains, Mountain, Southwest, and Pacific Coast. Each geographical section contains a map of the states included, plus a page or two of state facts. Well-known poets including Carl Sandburg, Langston Hughes, and Nikki Giovanni lend their voices to this collection, but there are poems by newcomers as well. Selected by Lee Bennett Hopkins, illus. by Stephen Alcorn. 83 pgs, hc. ~ Lisa
I chose this to read along with our study of the 50 states with my 2nd and 5th graders.
