Algebra Book 1 (Straight Forward Math)
It can be difficult to find supplemental practice or alternative instruction for some higher-level math topics, especially trigonometry and calculus, but these clean, uncluttered and "straight-forward" workbooks do the job nicely. Each workbook is divided into chapters on broad topics (like matrices), which are broken down further into parts which focus on more specific topics (like the determinant for 2x2 matrices). Each part includes a short lesson on the concept, followed by example problems which are solved in a step-by-step manner with explanations. Example problems are followed by a set of exercises for the student to complete on their own. You will probably want to work out the problems on a separate sheet of paper, since little room is typically provided with the exercises and the books are not reproducible. An answer key is provided in the back of each book, which features answers to exercises and any reviews included (answers only, not detailed solutions). A cumulative review is included in every book except for Calculus AB Volumes 1 and 2 to ensure that the concepts have been mastered. For the price, these are excellent supplements to higher-level math topics where the textbook is not providing adequate explanation or practice. - Jess
