Description

Know where your needle is at all times! Be safe and take your time! Remember that nothing has to be perfect! These are the authors' rules for children learning to sew for the first time. Color photos and clear directions make this one user-friendly book and a good choice for visual learners. Starting at age 5, you can teach your children to make basic stitches used in several simple project ideas. First they make a basic sewing kit and practice stitches, then they get to make a pin cushion and original stuffed toy. Later they can make a skirt, modify a t-shirt, even repair old clothes and toys. This book seems easier to use than some of our others that have more elaborate directions or projects. Age appropriate for little kids and non-sewing mothers. It may not be pretty at first, but it will be original and hopefully encourage future sewing enthusiasts! ~ Sara

Excellent beginner sewing book!
This book is a terrific introduction to sewing. The authors provide an upbeat and encouraging attitude that first time sewers will appreciate. Clear instructions along with full
color photographs accompany each step. I would recommend this gem of a book to any beginner sewer, child or adult.

Why did you choose this?

because my daughter is interested in learning how to sew.

Great photos and easy beginner projects

A great book and a Christmas gift for my niece.

To teach my Grandchild to sew.

Is this book for hand sewing or machine sewing?

Primarily hand sewing in this book. The book states "you will not need a sewing machine for most projects in this book". It does provide a page of tips for machine sewing. I *think* Sewing School 2 is for machine sewing.

Would anyone be able to share the list of recommended supplies? I am giving this as a gift and would like to be able to include the right supplies to get her started. Thanks.

You need a basic sewing kit: needles, pin cushion & straight pins, thread, scissors, measuring tape, chalk/pencil. A needle threader and safety pin are also recommended. Depending on the project, you'll need felt, fleece, muslin, or cotton fabric. Most projects only take a small piece (1/4 yd) but for a couple of the bigger projects you might need 1- 1 1/2 yds. You'll need stuffing, buttons, ribbon, 1/2" wide elastic, fabric markers, and notions of your choosing. It sounds like a lot, but this is for all 21 projects.

Is this just a book, or does it come with supplies (needle, thread, fabric, patterns, etc.) for completing the projects?

It has patterns for all the projects in a pocket at the back of the book. Nothing else is included. My daughter just started her first project today, and she wants to make everything in the book.

Has anyone used this to teach boys how to sew? I'm looking for a beginners book so that we can all learn together ( I have basic sewing skills ).

Yes I have 3 boys. They have enjoyed many projects from this book. The book has pictures of both boys and girls along with projects that appeal to lots of personalities. It’s a great book to teach the basics.

Is this book coil bound?

Yes, it is.
