Description

While restructured, the grade 3 math from Math Mammoth still meets and exceeds state standards. In worktext B, 5 units of math skills are covered, building upon 3rd grade skills introduced in Worktext A. Instruction is written directly to the student and requires very little teacher preparation. Each student will need their own consumable worktext to work in. Introductory pages are a user guide for parents. For additional help during lessons, access free lesson videos on the publisher’s website and create unlimited worksheets for practice. Pages have light use of color to break up the white space but is not distracting for students.  213 pgs. pb.  ~Rebecca

Publisher's Description of Math Mammoth Grade 3-B Worktext (2024 Edition, Full Color)
Math Mammoth Grade 3-B worktext (2024 edition) is the student book for the second half of third grade math. In this part B, the main areas of study are: * 4-digit numbers; * concept of division, division facts, and division word problems; * measurement; * geometry (area and perimeter); * fractions: fractions on a number line, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions. Features - Math Mammoth focuses on conceptual understanding. It explains the "WHY", so your children can understand the math, not just learn "HOW" to do it. - Concepts are often explained with visual models, followed by exercises using those models. These visual models can take the place of manipulatives for many children; however, it is very easy to add corresponding manipulatives to the lessons if so desired. - The curriculum is mastery-oriented. This means it concentrates fairly long on a topic, delving into its various aspects. This promotes conceptual understanding, as opposed to spiral curricula that often tend to jump from topic to topic too much. - There is a strong emphasis on mental math and number sense. - The curriculum requires very little teacher preparation, which is a big help to most parents. :) - The curriculum has no separate teacher's manual nor is it scripted. The introduction to each chapter has some notes for the teacher concerning the material in the chapter. All the instruction is written directly to the student in the worktext, and there also exist accompanying videos where you can see Maria herself teach the material. - After each chapter introduction, you will find a list of Internet links and resources (games, quizzes, animations, etc.) that can be used for fun, illustrations, and further practice. - For multiplication tables and division facts, you can use our online practice program (free). A companion to this book, Math Mammoth Grade 3-A worktext, covers the first half of 3rd grade math (available separately). Also available are the answer keys and a book containing cumulative reviews and chapter tests.

The revised 2024 edition of Math Mammoth 3 has been restructured, yet the overall difficulty has not changed. This restructuring has taken chapter 1 and split it into two chapters, and some topics like elapsed time, shapes, area, perimeter, and fractions are now covered over more than one lesson. Two topics were removed from this level: rounding 4-digit numbers, which is now covered in level 4, and Roman numerals, which can be found online if you would like your students to study the topic. More strategies have been provided for multiplication and additional emphasis on writing equations for word problems has been added. The first chapter includes a thorough review of 2nd grade skills for those students who are new to the Math Mammoth program. Each chapter also has additional games and activity suggestions. The same four components make up your year of math (2 worktexts, test booklet, answer key). Areas of study in Grade 3 include: addition & subtraction with mental math, rounding, multiplication, time, money, four-digit numbers, division, measurements, geometry, and fractions. ~Rebecca
