A comedy that is not simply a comedy, As You Like It
was written by William Shakespeare in about 1600. Themes of politics and
religion form a complicated backdrop for this love story about Rosalind and
Orlando. The corrupt Duke Frederick forces us to look at life in exile: is it
really so bad? Simple and helpful notes guide students through unfamiliar word
usage without taking away from the original story. I liked the introduction to
the story and the insight it provided. It gives a decent overview without giving
anything away. 287 pp, no illustrations.

Publisher's Description of As You Like It (Memoria Press Shakespeare Collection)
As You Like It is a delightful comedy, but it is not just
a comedy. None of Shakespeare’s comedies are simply comedies. There is
always much gravitas within the levitas, much that is serious within
that which is merely fun or funny.
At the heart of the play are the hearts of the lovers, Rosalind and
Orlando, and at its rhetorical heart is the meaning of love itself. What
is love? Is it as blind as Cupid? Or is it the laying down of one’s
life for another, even if the other is thine own worst enemy?
Offered as an alternative to the grade level selections, this collection of literature guides (and books) offers family choices to meet individual student or family needs. For each study, the Teacher Guide, Student Guide, and book are required.
