Category Description for Easy Grammar Series

Mastery of basic grammar facts. Independent student work. Lots of review and practice. That's what Easy Grammar provides. It's convenient and takes no teacher prep time. The general idea is to introduce grammar gently to young students (Easy Grammar Daily Guided Teaching, grades 1-2). The middle school years (grades 3-7) focus on systematic instruction and provide lots of practice to master the basics as well as daily review. The secondary years (Easy Grammar Ultimate, grades 8-12) continue daily review, coupled with some advanced instruction. The courses vary in structure at different grade levels. Grades 3-6 are similar in structure but grade-level appropriate. Easy Grammar Plus is a course that can be used either in 7th grade or as a complete grammar review for older students. Daily Grams, available for grades 3-7, supplements and complements the EG series by providing daily review.

Each grade level Teacher Edition provides bite-size lessons, student practice and assessment pages, and those same pages with answers filled in. Both the practice pages and the tests are reproducible for families. Student Workbooks include lesson and practice pages. Test Books (available for Grades 3 and up) provide pre and post tests as well as sectional tests. Grade level Sets include the Teacher Edition, Student Book and Test Book (if available for that level).

Beneficial but not Extraordinary
Initially, I loved the approach of teaching prepositions first? until I realized we'd be stuck on prepositions alone indefinitely. The pace of the curriculum is quite slow, and while the daily work is neither lengthy or tedious, it is very rote. For teaching grammar as a stand alone through simple, daily practice? Excellent, absolutely excellent. For engaging the child in the concepts they're learning? Not so much. It's a tough one to review because it has some amazing elements to it, but the pace combined with the boring, nondescript pages make it a hard one to 'want' to continue with.

How many lessons are in the book?

Most pages of the workbook include work to be done by the student but throughout the text there are pages with explanations and teachings so there really isn't a set answer. I've used Easy Grammar for years and we typically go through a workbook in the typical school year. There are about 237 pages in the workbook; some include explanation and instructions, some are review worksheets for the students and most are regular student lesson worksheets.

does the easy grammar 4 student workbook contain answers in back?

No. You need the teacher’s manual. The teacher’s manual contains both the answer key and the workbook that you could make a copy of. Not something you could pull out the page to use though.

Does it come with answer key?

The student workbook does not come with an answer key. I would recommend that you purchase the teacher guide for the older grades at least. The teacher guide actually has a full student page (without answers) right next to a full teacher page, which has all the answers put in. So, you could just buy the teacher guide and copy the student pages out of that, but it would take a lot of ink and paper and is not as convenient.

Does it have answer solutions?

The workbook does not have answer solutions, it is just a workbook for the child. But the teacher's edition has the entire workbook, the answers for every page, all the tests & the test answers. So you could copy every page that the workbook has in it but would be a lot less work to just get the workbook. The teachers edition is well worth it & has been a great & easy way to learn grammar. I personally used it to copy all the tests from because the workbook does not have the tests in it. But, all in all you only have to purchase 2 books for the entire year. It was a great purchase & well worth it!

Child leaving public school from 4th grade. Can I start at the 4th grade level teaching. ?

I Can't answer that question directly because I've only homeschooled! But i can share what I have learned about this. The lessons are short, so short you might wonder if it is enough of a lesson. But they are very thorough. The teachers manual is confusing, because there isn't really one. On one side of the page is the worksheet and the other the answers. That's it. I kind of like it, because my kids just like the cut and dry-ness of it, not completely sure I would want to use it again. Give it a go, it is not very expensive, your child will probably have more understanding of grammar, and should not have difficulty going straight over to it. Good luck. Homeschooling is personal and unique to each family, keep trying until something fits and then don't be afraid to switch it up later again.
