black-and-white 3.5” x 5” paper readers. There are 10 nonfiction readers
covering topics from snails and windmills to paleontology and types of sleds.
There are also 10 fiction readers with stories about fixing cars, artists in
the city, being late for the game, and sheep at the beach. The last page of
each paper reader is a series of brief comprehension questions to work on those
skills as well. On the back of each reader, Learning Without Tears has included
a list of Words to Watch: phonics words, high-frequency words, and knowledge-building
