Category Description for Abeka Math Grade 4 (Revised Edition)

Arithmetic 4 builds on the foundation of the base ten system with a focus on fractions, geometry, and basic algebra. Through the explanation of new concepts, practical application, and enhanced spiral review, students will build practical skills while expanding mathematical understanding. Clever Cranium questions challenge students to think critically, collaborate, and apply learned concepts. Themes throughout the year capture students' interest while providing practical application of Arithmetic concepts.

What has changed between the 4th and revised 5th edition? More than the layout and aesthetics have changed with this new edition, and here are a few of the things it will cover:

  • Heavy emphasis on using context to determine story problem solving strategies.
  • More graphing, interpreting data, determining mean, mode, median, range of graphs.
  • More geometry, including solid shapes, area, and volume.
  • Using a protractor to measure/draw angles.
  • Logical introduction to the metric system, metric conversions.
  • Daily mental challenge: often critical thinking, some spatial awareness, standardized test questions, lots of further application of what has been learned already.
  • Still heavy on fractions with transition to decimals near the end of the year (hasn't changed).
