So far this curriculum is serving us very well! Just challenging enough, and allows my daughter to work through independently which she loves.

Happy with this curriculum, especially for the price! We just started this book after finishing their first (1A) and have already bought future grades.

I love all the resource links for free games online the child can play to practice correlating math skills they’re learning, as well as card game ideas (like Math War). I appreciate the free online videos the author has created to correspond with some of the lessons.

The curriculum presents concepts in various ways, so the child understands the problems on a deeper level. It is mastery based, meaning it focuses on a topic until solid, before introducing a new concept. There is also the option of using it in a more spiral fashion, if preferred. My student generally only needs to do every other problem (they do NOT need to do them all, as the book mentions). Sometimes we do even less, sometimes more, depending on how much practice I see is needed. We do two pages a day typically.

There is a placement test available on their website. We started MM grade 1 at 5yo, not needing any prior kindergarten curriculum. I also see much feedback from other users that MM is typically ahead by a year or so compared to other curriculums. It follows and exceeds common core standards. There are lots of sample pages available on their website. This is a solid program.

I advise color over black and white; some of the pages reference color. This listing was for color, so you’d be good to go.

I appreciate that this is free of religious content (secular).

I was originally going to use Math U See, but after much research decided to go with Math Mammoth. Math U See is mastery based also, but more slow going and repetitive.
I also compared other curriculums like Singapore. Singapore has a good reputation and is supposedly similar, but it is more teacher intensive, with a separate scripted teachers manual and a bit more distracting pictures. Also more expensive.

I’ve heard people complain about the pages on MM being too much, busy, etc. I don’t find it a problem for us. I see it as a good use of space. Seems like just the right amount of color and pictures, without being distracting. Also, you’re not meant to complete one lesson in one day; more like 1-2 pages/day.

Also, I recommend an AL abacus (not just a standard rainbow colored one). They are incredible at instilling number sense and subitizing if you take the time to learn how to use it. There are videos online, especially from Right Start Math, teaching one how to use. I actually bought Right Start’s Activities for Abacus book (originally their main curriculum) to go more in depth on the abacus use. It pairs beautifully with Math Mammoth.

I used math mammoth last year for my 4th grader and was quite impressed. It was easy for her to learn and do on her own yet gave her many critical thinking problems.
We started MM 1 with my first grader over the summer and it has a gentle and thorough approach. Since he’s not reading well, he doesn’t do it independently but working through it together, I’m excited about the program.

Great curriculum choice for independent students
My first grader loved using this to teach himself, with help from mom only when needed. The colorful version was worth a few bucks to help keep him interested and the pictures easy to see. Ordering 2nd grade this week!

Solid
Did a lot of research on Grade 1 math curriculum; this ended up on the short list. We tried sample content from 3 or 4 vendors and Mammoth was well liked by tutor (mom) and well enough by student. Now starting this part 2 and he's progressing very well. I'm guessing if we get through the whole thing by the end of the summer he'll be in really good shape should we put him back in a classroom.

Straightforward math program. No fluff, and very effective.

My oldest son has used MM for grades 1 and 2 so far and has done so well. So now I'm using it for the next two in line! I love that it's open and go and that the instruction is built right into the…
