Category Description for Exploring Creation With Marine Biology

2nd edition was new in 2017! If your high school student has completed a first-year biology course, and has an interest in marine biology, Exploring Creation with Marine Biology focuses exclusively on marine biology and marine habitats, from microscopic creatures to the big fish that eat the little fish. Eight modules cover all aspects of life in the sea, including oceans, how life sustains itself in the ocean environment, sea-dwelling organisms from kingdoms Monera, Protista, Fungi, and Plantae, marine invertebrates, marine vertebrates, and marine ecology. The course is fairly advanced and should not be completed unless Exploring Creation with Biology or an equivalent biology course has been completed. Dissections are also done in this course with subjects including a clam, starfish, and a dogfish shark. Like other Apologia books, the set consists of a hardcover student text and a softcover test and solutions book. The text contains student text, "On Your Own" questions, lab exercises, and study guides for each module. The solutions and test manual contains tests, test solutions, and answers to each module's study guide questions.

Smell-free dissection!
I absolutely love this set! My education was in biology and physical therapy, which included many many dissections over the years with smelly (and probably toxic) preparation techniques. But all for the sake of science right! ?? And through the years in my homeschool, we used the same type of smelly specimens...until now! These specimens are prepared with this amazing solution without that terrible, familiar smell that I endured. I can’t tell you the difference it makes in the enjoyment level during dissection. We can think and really get into it together! Whoever discovered this preparation technique, God bless them!!

"Dissecting Tray" a piece of cheap foam
When ordering, I wavered between just buying the specimens from another source or the whole kit. I decided that the "dissecting tray" would be useful, and since I have additional kids coming through the ranks, it would be worth the money. Turns out that "dissecting tray" was a piece of foam that I could have picked up for free at any store. Could you imagine the condition of that piece of foam after just one dissection? It is not a tray, it is a piece of foam.

Just two notes. Rainbow Resource does not carry the Specimens only kit. Also, the so-called "dissection tray" is shown on the picture, but my brain did not make the connection.
