Math Mammoth Grade 5-A worktext (Light Blue Series) is the first student worktext for fifth grade in the Math Mammoth curriculum. This is the 2023 edition.
The first chapter covers operations with whole numbers (e.g. multi-digit multiplication and long division with two-digit divisors). We also study divisibility, factors, and prime factorization. In chapter 2, the focus is on large numbers and using a calculator. Then we study simple equations and problem solving, using a pan balance and bar models.
Chapter 4 is about decimals and some operations with decimals. We focus on place value, addition & subtraction of decimals, and multiplication & division of decimals by whole numbers.
Then, in chapter 5, students study the coordinate plane (first quadrant only), patterns in the coordinate grid, line graphs, and the concept of average.

This edition provides the same great mastery approach to math that we know and love from Math Mammoth. The revised edition of Grade 5 has streamlined lessons, making some lessons optional, and has rewritten entire lessons in chapters 1, 2, 5, and 9. The lesson concerning circles has been removed and longer lessons in chapter 1 have been made into two separate lessons. These revisions have been made to help create a more focused presentation. The same four components (2 worktexts, test booklet, answer key) are specific to this edition. Areas of study in Grade 5 include: the four operations with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions; along with statistics, graphing, problem solving, and geometry. ~Rebecca
