Publisher's Description of Red Edition Speks (Solid)
The original in mashable, smashable fun. Made from rare earth magnets in a rainbow of colors, Speks are quite possibly the best stress-relief desk toy around (#humblebrag). Take "em wherever you like " they're the perfect size for work or on-the-go.
Half fidget toy, half sculpting tool, entirely magnetic! Speks are the latest in magnetic model-making. Composed of 512 2.5mm rare-earth magnetic balls, these sets can be used to create virtually any shape imaginable. Weave magnetic jewelry, an intricate coil, a hollow cube, or even a fish! Pardoning the clich, the possibilities are as endless as your imagination (and the limits of 512-bead magnetism). When youre finished creating (or havent even started), squish them together & pull them apart for the ultimate stress toy. Comes in a giftable box, complete with a guide, magnet separator, metal base, and a plastic carrying case. A perfect desk toy for young and old alike!
fantastic to keep hands busy for read-alouds, but color rubs off.
I was hesitant to buy this because of the price, it seemed steep. I was let down when it arrived because seemed so small. All of my initial skepticism was laid to rest though, after I gifted to my kids. They LOVE them.
I bought this as a quiet "keep hands busy" activity during read-aloud time. SUCCESS! They have gotten hours and hours of use. We have had Speks for about 6 months and we read aloud most school days. Speks are still often selected over other similar toys.
One Star off because my daughters red Speks have completely lost all their color. As she played with them the red coating has rubbed off. They are now all silver. My sons green specs are about 70% still green. Assuming this is a issue with all colors, but my experience is limited to the green and red. As expensive as they are, I'm surprised this happens. Either way, would still purchase again as my kiddos have enjoyed them SO much.
