Easy to use and time efficient (10-15 minutes per day), these daily activities may strengthen reading comprehension and prepare students for achievement testing. Reading selections have been created using the Flesch Kincaid readability formula and include a "leveling chart" and tracking sheet for further assessment. Each book contains 150 daily readings with comprehension questions targeting a variety of reading skills and strategies. Five topic areas include: Interesting Places and Events, Scientifically Speaking, From the Past, Did you know? and Fascinating People. Examples from the first grade book include Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, Easter Island, and the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Sixth grade story line examples include: Ellis Island, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, and LEGO® Bricks. Comprehension questions focus on a variety of activities including: recall, main idea, supporting details, cause and effect, sequencing, vocabulary and context clues for new vocabulary, inferences and drawing conclusions.
