By Wanda Sanseri Wise Guide is the companion spelling list of words for SWR. WISE stands for Words, Instructions, and Spelling Enrichments. It is also the author's maiden name. The core spelling list is an updated version of the renowned Ayres List completed in 1915. Leonard Ayers, a successful teacher, school administrator, statistician, and researcher compiled a list of the most frequently used words. He then contacted school superintendents in 84 different cities across the country requesting that the words be given as spelling test their students. He used the collected data to organize high frequency words into sections according to spelling difficulty. Computerized studies include other words in the top one-thousand. What do The Writing Road to Reading, and this program, Spell to Write & Read have in common? Both have similar (and potentially confusing) names. Both would be labeled intensive phonics. And Both would claim a teaching progression something like this: sounds of speech - building words - developing a spelling vocabulary - writing original sentences - and then reading follows. If that sounds a little backwards to you, remember that these programs have very devoted followers who claim great success using this methodology and Spell to Write and Read is one of Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks for Homeschooling Curriculum.
Spell to Write and Read by Wanda Sanseri is an updated replacement for a previous program (Teaching Reading at Home and School) and is designed exclusively to work with the W.I.S.E. Guide for Spelling, also by Mrs. Sanseri. While SWR and the WISE Guide are considered a reading and spelling program, they could also be used as a stand-alone spelling program for a child who is already reading. SWR functions as a step-by-step teacher's guide to accompany the specific word lists in the WISE Guide. Covering preparation, philosophy, preschool pointers, reading aloud, evaluating achievement levels, and teaching penmanship with phonograms, it also illustrates in scripted detail the spelling dictation process and the spelling rule Reference Pages with instructions and examples. Great resource
This a good resource to go with the cards.
I am a private tutor and so I use this in tandem with what the children are doing at school.
It looks like the user needs to work through the lessons in order but I have to be creative because my children are given spellings from their schools which I have no control over. I would have liked to have an index so I can find individual words with thief related spelling rules.

When I first purchased the curriculum Spell to Write and Read (SWR) I thought that the idea of giving a child 20 words a week seemed a bit much However after using this for half of the year with my six-year-old I've found that it's just what she needs Throughout the week she will notice the words in poetry stories or on signs and point out that it is a spelling wordThat said I am amazed how well she's done She is a gifted mathematician but because of a lack of fine motor skills reading and writing are difficult Through the methods and phonograph study in SWR she's increased her reading and writing significantly since August And miraculously she's memorized the phonographs!Our plan of attack for each week is something like this: Monday we dictate the words into her spelling book and create a sentence using some of the words Tuesday she types her words onto the computer and another sentence is created Wednesday she writes the words three times each and another sentence is written Thursday she writes them on the chalkboard and yet another sentence is born Then on Friday she reviews them out loud and we have a "spelling bee" Here she writes them and my four year old writes the first sound of each word (and increasingly the word itself)

what is the difference between Organized Spelling Lessons and the Essential Teacher Planner?
I'm not sure if I understand the question completely but I will try to answer. The WISE Guide for Spelling is the book the teacher uses everyday as they work through the spelling lists. You need the SWR core book (I assume this is what you are referring to as Essential Teacher Planner.) It gives the steps and is full of information and rich resources. It took me awhile to understand but the DVDs really helped tremendously. We are more than happy with SWR. It is a well thought out program and Im learning along with my daughter.
