Category Description for Abeka Elementary Bible Curriculum (Pk-6)

This spiral curriculum progressively helps students learn (and memorize) major Bible content and key Scriptures (KJV), Christian doctrine, and the plan of Salvation. Each year's study systematically overviews key characters, events, and concepts from the Old and New Testaments. Teachers are given plentiful guidance: lesson plan helps and procedures; nearly scripted lessons; reproducible tests (with answers); and more. Most student learning and review work is oral, with periodic testing. Typically, the approximate 30-minute, 4-day-per-week plan begins the first half of each lesson with the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem, then a variety of songs (hymns, choruses, and more, aided by the included grade-level music CD). Next, comes Scripture memory and review (sometimes from previous years), other Bible concept drills (depending on the grade), and prayer.

The second half is the topic-focused Bible lesson. The Flash-a-Card® stories serve as each lesson's hub. Although quantity and print format vary per level, these full-color illustrated Bible stories offer students a visual while you provide the lesson.

Each grade simultaneously introduces new material while periodically spiraling back on specific units from previous years, with the goal of deepening children's Biblical understanding. So, you'll note some periodic repetitive use of card story sets, typically repeating some units every other year. However, some sets are used annually: the Crucifixion and Resurrection; the Salvation Series (used in K5 - Grade 6), and the Life of Christ Stories series of 5 sets (used in all but 5th and K4). You can, however, start Abeka® Bible at any level since kits will include each year's lessons and materials.

Grades 5-6 kits maintain the teaching methodologies and focus begun in previous levels. At these grades only "classroom" style kits are available, but they're still appropriate for home school use. These pictorial Flash-a-Cards® sets, made of sturdy 12"x15" cardstock, are stored in a protective vinyl case, providing group teaching options and many years of use. In addition, you'll receive a Sing to the Lord songbook and CD, a spiral bound Curriculum Plan, and Sword Drill books (providing children practice using their Bibles). The kit for Grades 5 or 6 comes in a large storage box, protecting your Bible curriculum.

The K4 - grade 4 kits are homeschool editions: these 8 1/2"x 11" pictures and detachable lesson guides are stored in a book format. Kits include a level of the Sing Unto the Lord song CD (Scripture songs, choruses, and hymns), the curriculum, and the illustrated Flash-a-Card®. Grades 3, 5, and 6 add a spiral-bound songbook with simple piano arrangements, lyrics, an index, and grade-level indications. See our website for grade level specifics. ~ Ruth
