Updated to reflect the latest Next Gen Standards, Science 3 has numerous topics added to it including the solar system, soil erosion and conservation, weather and climate, fossils, and much more. STEM activities and lessons, and a focus on STEM careers have also been added throughout. A biblical worldview is prioritized, with expanded explanations of biblical worldview concepts. According to the publisher, BJU Press, the 5th edition is not compatible with previous editions.

The teacher edition includes a suggested teaching schedule with a lesson plan overview, teacher helps, differentiated instruction, answers to Quick Check questions, and additional student activities. Additional teacher resources, including instructional aids, visuals, and the materials list, are in the appendix. The Teacher Toolkit CD is no longer included. The student worktext includes student readings and brightly colored, helpful illustrations, diagrams, and photographs. A quick check question at the end of each section is helpful to assess student understanding. An expanded student index and glossary are also included. The activities book includes hands-on activities and worksheets. Chapter study guides are also included to provide a systematic review of key concepts before the assessment. It also includes procedures for the investigations and explorations section found in the student worktext. Answers are found in the activities answer key. The assessments packet includes 11 chapter tests and activity rubrics. Answers are found in the assessment answer key. Components are available individually or in a homeschool kit, which includes the Teacher's Edition, Worktext, Activities Book, Activities Book Answer Key, Assessments and Assessment Answer Key.
