Forexample, in the Native Americans book, in theTlingit unit, there's a title for the pocket alongwith several picture dictionary cards, a fact sheet,a booklet with illustrations for the child to color,and then two craft projects - creating a potlatchmask that the Tlingits wear to special occasions,as well as a totem pole layer book. A selectionof pocket contents from an upper grade booksuch Ancient Egypt in the "Daily Life" unit wouldinclude a pocket title, ‘Fast Facts" bookmarkwith facts about life in ancient Egypt, an "AboutDaily Life" sheet to read, an art page featuringancient Egyptian clothing, and activities includingdressing a figure in ancient Egyptian clothing,making a necklace of six important Egyptiansymbols, and making a small book on ancientEgyptian dwellings. Most projects, patterns, andeverything else to be included in the pockets arereproducible for your own use. All the piecesyou need in this book are included for your use,and there are very few (if any) time-consumingprojects, as most of them require only a paperpattern copied from the book and used, makingthis an easy way to combine some hands-onextra fun and personality into your history study,without expending a lot of time and effort onprojects, for moms running a little short on time.
