BiblioPlan Modern Lesson Plans Plus
BiblioPlan Lesson Plans Plus, formerly known as the Family Guide, provides the structural framework for the program – a full year's worth of history and literature readings. The Lesson Plan Plus is necessary. There are four guides, one for each of the four classical (chronological) time periods Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern. This is the core of the whole program (and once WAS the whole program). Designed by a group of homeschooling moms, these guides provide a 34-week, comprehensive lesson plans with annotated reading lists, audio options, video suggestions, and additional resources for each grade level. With a goal of integrating quality historical literature with biblical and secular history, these moms put together an easy-to-follow plan covering the historical topic (Classtime), intentional scriptural study, References and Resources for textual information about the topic, Literature Selections of the Week (for all grade levels), a Family Read Aloud suggestion, Writing Ideas, weekly Memory Work, Optional Fiction & free online resources, movies, and suggested Activities. Introductory information in each Guide includes the usual "how to find books" and "how to use the plan" information as well as the book lists for both the scheduled and the optional literature. Each Unit also includes an annotated book list specifically for that unit’s course of study for 6 weeks.
If you are under the impression that the Lesson Plans Plus might be all you need, you would be correct. They're comprehensive and thorough; well-constructed plans. You could complete four years (plus four more if you wanted) of interesting history, absorbing literature, and engaging activity possibilities using just these guides. If you go this route, you will need to use the frequently referenced "spine resources." These include the BiblioPlan textbooks (Remember the Days or Consider the Years), Story of the World, Mystery of History, The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History, or History of US and several others.
The Family Guide is where BP blends history with literature. To really understand the past, students must read literature that takes them back to the past. BP finds the best literature for every era, and then tells you how it all fits into our program.
Year Four, Modern history, walks American and World History side-by-side once again. Pick up where Volume 3 left off, in about 1850, and end with the War in the Middle East (2001). Modern also follows the previous BiblioPlan format. There is one hardcover Remember the Days textbook for grades K-7, and two soft-cover Companion textbooks for grades 8-12. This 6-Unit (34 weeks) course of study sends students trekking through major wars of the 19th and 20th century and just peeks into the 21st century. Students also find themselves traveling with missionaries sharing the Word of God.
Wars shadow the 19th and 20th centuries as history reveals empires and countries at war with one another from the Crimean and Opium Wars, the Franco-Prussian War, to the wars that dragged the entire world into conflict. The world history side of Volume 4 weaves a tapestry of conflict happening worldwide. The U.S. side highlights significant movements: the Underground Railroad, Reconstruction, the Transcontinental Railroad, to the Gilded Age. The history concludes in 2001 with 9/11 and the wars in the Middle East. Within this tapestry of conflict, follow the threads of missionaries as they embark into a world that sometimes rejects their message of faith, hope, and love. Travel alongside missionaries like Lottie Moon, Eric Liddell, Brother Andrew, and many others, learning their stories and the impact their dedication had for Christ's Kingdom.
The Family Guide will take you step-by-step through text readings from either one of the textbooks. Further literature, audio, videos, maps, and activities are all found in individual spiral-bound books. Material found within each spiral-bound book may be reproduced for family needs. Select exactly what you want to cover with this program for each student (K-12) while studying Modern History together.
