I HIGHLY recommend getting the COMPASS CD/Download to go with this. I wouldn't want to teach Alg. I with the books only. The Compass lessons bring it to life and provide a different medium beyond textbook pages.
Systematic, appropriately repetitive, understandable, reasonable progression, confidence building DIY. With Saxon, Math doesnt have to be stressful and I say that as a man with an accounting degree and an MBA in finance.
Although I spent lots of time reading other reviews before ordering this, it was disappointing. Saxon 8/7 advanced rather fast at the end, and I expected Algebra 1 would be similar in the last 1/8 of saxon 8/7 in terms of pacing. I am glad we didnt order Algebra 1/2 as we consider it first seriously. Algebra 1 takes off really slowly with lots of reviews of 8/7. Our 6th grade is doing just fine with Algebra 1 after finishing 8/7. Also, I regret that we didnt order the newest version because the review said that the new version moves fast without much explanations. Looking at Algebra 1, how it is pacing, we should have bought the newest version instead...in considering we really do not need too much in depth explanations for this book anyway as it is basically the same theory from 8/7. I wish there was a way to look into the first a few lessons without buying the textbook and wish there were more description of the deference between 8/7, algebra 1/2 and 1. Hope this review will help others in similar situations. Though lots of review made it sound like Algebra 1 is really hard, it is not hard at all.... not much different from prealgebra. I am confident to say that if your student is doing well- average 85% on 8/7 ( mixed practice), regardless of age (some review recommended to go for Algebra 1/2 if students are too young), skip Algebra 1/2 and go for Algebra 1. I would have gone for the newest version, not the old version.
I bought this over a year ago and a solution manual was included in my order, which shows the work(process). The regular answer key does not include the work or process, (just answers only) so it is hard to figure out how to come up with the answers unless you know the subject very well. I find the solution manual helpful to figure out how to come to the answer. Thus, it helps us to help our child when he does not get the correct answer. In other words, there was no booklet called “teacher’s manual” in this set, but I assume you mean the solution manual?

My answer: yes, you will want both books.
Saxon provides two options for answers: Answer Key (which contains the test answers (with solutions) and homework answers (no solutions) and Solutions Manual (which contains homework answers (with solutions) but no test information). If you want to be able to grade the tests, then you need the Answer Key. My 3rd edition book is called 'Homeschool Packet'; I couldn't find any other title for it.) In addition, if you want step-by-step solutions for the homework (practice sets and problem sets) you will need the Solutions Manual also.
Yes. You are getting all that you need. I remember that the picture doesn't show it, but you get all three.
This package does come complete with answers, test packet, all you need to have a successful math year. Saxon is the best in my opinion.
It was a great price and it is hands down the best math curriculum.
I chose Saxon because it has a good reputation and is more affordable when compared with trendy curriculum.
I have liked the previous books
We have loved Saxon math all through our homeschool journey of 8 years and are looking forward to continuing through high school with it.
