Publisher's Description of Famous Figures of the Early Modern Era
Cut out the arms, legs, and body parts. Then put them together with a hole punch and mini brads to make a paper doll that moves. This fun hands-on history craft will inspire your children to want to learn more about the famous people of the early modern era. Includes a short description about each person along with a list of books to read aloud. Perfect for kids who love crafts and hands-on activities. A great addition to your study of the early modern era. Hours of fun and educational play!
If you are not a big arts-and-crafts type of teacher, no
worries! You can easily add a craft project to your history studies with these
consumable workbooks. The artwork is wonderfully done, and the craft is
interactive, from designing to assembly to historical play. The books (designed
to be disassembled and the figures cut out) are made with heavyweight
cardstock. There are two sets of each figure: one in full color, and one with black-and-white
line art to be colored in (definitely a colored pencil project). At the front
of the book is a pictorial guide to each figure that includes a detailed
biographical sketch and a companion reading list (read-aloud as well as
independent reading options). There are complete instructions for assembling
using small brads or eyelets, with a letter key printed on the back of each piece
for easy assembly. A hole punch and fasteners are required for assembly and are
NOT included. These time-era paper doll books would make a wonderful addition
to a classical history program like Mystery of History,
Story
of the World, or BiblioPlan.
I have used many of the books in the Famous Figures series. They are a great hands on supplement to our Story of the World history course. While my child is listening to the story / lesson for the day he will do the coloring page that comes with the course. But on lessons about these characters he will cut out one of these and put it together. It keeps his hands busy and directly ties into the lessons. He remembers the names of all his paper dolls through history. He has used them since 1st grade and is now in 5'th. The dolls Help him remember the lessons. He will even occasionally play with them - lol. (my younger daughter is just starting history and enjoys them also) This Early Modern Era book is a perfect supplement for studying this time period.
