Greek Myths 2nd Edition (Imitation in Writing)
Imitation in Writing is a curriculum that teaches students to write by giving students simple stories to retell in their own words. Students are given step-by-step instructions on how to outline, retell, and edit their retellings of classic fables, myths, and legends.
Designed by veteran Logos School teacher and superintendent Matt Whitling, this curriculum is perfect for both classrooms and for homeschoolers. Whether your student is eager to write or struggles with it, Imitation in Writing allows students to get plenty of practice writing.
This new edition has been specially adapted with several new features:
- Weekly schedules for both classrooms and homeschoolers
- Detailed instructions for every step in the writing process
- Carefully edited classic stories for your students to imitate
- Sidebars with historical notes or the moral of the story
- Optional activities that allow students to be retell their stories with a creative twist
This book features twenty-seven Greek Myths. Some of them are familiar, such as Midas and the Golden Touch or the story of Prosperpina and Hades, and some will be unfamiliar and strange, but they will all help familiarize your students with much of classical mythology.
As the title suggests, this course from Logos Press aims to teach writing through the medium of imitation. The author proposes that as it was the method of a bygone era, and since educators still use imitation to teach many different subjects, e.g. handwriting, art, math, music, and reading, it is an effective tool for teaching the art of writing. Written for a classroom setting, the series is easily adapted to a homeschool environment. Each book has step-by-step instructions, beginning with the student's first reading of the original work and ending with a final draft and grading of his own version. All of the stories, tales, myths or fables to be imitated are included in each book, along with reproducible worksheets which guide the student in taking notes on key aspects of rewriting the original: vocabulary, plot, characters and any additional requirements. Examples are given of completed worksheets and rewritten stories, tales, myths and fables to aid the teacher. A neat series for teaching young people to write creatively. ~ Zach
I already used this for my older son and daughter and they loved it! Now I am buying it for our next child. Great writing practice and the myths are fun and interesting.
We used the Aesop's Fables one last year and enjoyed it. So I purchased Greek Myths for next year.
My son loves ancient myths, and I hope that this will encourage him to write more.
My daughter is into this subject now and I felt it may inspire her to learn more formal writing.
