Spine does lay flat after you give it a push for easy painting. The paper is nice quality with the right amount of texture that can handle multiple applications of wet watercolor paint with minimal buckling. Each book covers multiple watercolor techniques with areas to practice before going on to projects in each section. Each project gives you a suggested color palette (although more advanced painters could substitute their own colors), paintbrush size, and any additional tools needed—black pen or white gel pen.
