Description

The affordable Grade 4A Home Instructor Guide is a black and white, multi-faceted resource designed for one-on-one instruction that provides the homeschool teacher with everything needed to facilitate the teacher-student interaction that is the heart of this program. The courses are divided into chapters with each including several sections made up of multiple lessons. Chapters also include STEAM and problem-solving projects, as well as a chapter review. In the HIG each chapter starts with a page or two that covers the overview, key ideas, and materials needed. A detailed lesson-by-lesson “chapter at a glance" chart provides the learning objectives, focus question, vocabulary, materials, and instructional resources used (Student Book page numbers) for each lesson in the chapter.

Daily lessons are detailed and easy to follow with illustrations where needed. The overall format is crisp and clean. Lessons are based on the concrete-pictorial-abstract methodology that is loved by Singapore math aficionados. Incorporating question-answer dialogs relative to the instruction laid out in the Student Books, the lessons are peppered with Teaching Tips – highlighted points for applying the lesson or additional instruction in a particular area. The Lesson Debrief is a section at the end of each lesson that refers back to and confirms the focus question.

Answers/solutions to the Student Book exercises are provided in sidebars making them easy to find. There are some special sections such as “Do More at Home" which detail reinforcing games and activities. Differentiated instruction is covered in a paragraph that includes homework assignments from the Additional Practice, Reteach, or Extension workbooks that correlate with the lesson. After each section of lessons, there are assignments from the Mastery and Beyond workbook that provide cumulative review and reinforcement for the lessons in that section.

Purchase of the HIG includes an access code to the Marshall Cavendish EduHub website. A digital version of the HIG is provided and available for one year. The Home Instructor Guide references teacher resources, some of which are printable from the website such as the charts and cards used in the lessons.

Why did you choose this?

We have been using Right Start math, and I am looking for something with a more mastery and less spiral approach.

I choose this because it's both secular and a rigorous math program.

I'm looking forward to trying Singapore's new 2022 edition!
