Primary Mathematics Home Instructor's Guide 1A (2022 Edition)
The affordable Grade 1A Home Instructor Guide is a black and white, multi-faceted resource designed for one-on-one instruction that provides the homeschool teacher with everything needed to facilitate the teacher-student interaction that is the heart of this program. The courses are divided into chapters, with each including several sections made up of multiple lessons. Chapters also include STEAM and problem-solving projects as well as a chapter review. In the HIG each chapter starts with a page or two that covers the overview, key ideas, and materials needed. A detailed lesson-by-lesson “chapter at a glance" chart provides the learning objectives, focus question, vocabulary, materials, and instructional resources used (Student Book page numbers) for each lesson in the chapter.
Daily lessons are detailed and easy to follow with illustrations where needed. The overall format is crisp and clean. Lessons are based on the concrete-pictorial-abstract methodology that is loved by Singapore math aficionados. Incorporating question-answer dialogs relative to the instruction laid out in the Student Books, the lessons are peppered with Teaching Tips – highlighted points for applying the lesson or additional instruction in a particular area. The Lesson Debrief is a section at the end of each lesson that refers back to and confirms the focus question.
Answers/solutions to the Student Book exercises are provided in sidebars making them easy to find. There are some special sections such as “Do More at Home" which detail reinforcing games and activities. Differentiated instruction is covered in a paragraph that includes homework assignments from the Additional Practice, Reteach, or Extension workbooks that correlate with the lesson. After each section of lessons, there are assignments from the Mastery and Beyond workbook that provide cumulative review and reinforcement for the lessons in that section.
Purchase of the HIG includes an access code to the Marshall Cavendish EduHub website. A digital version of the HIG is also provided and available for one year. The Home Instructor Guide references teacher resources, some of which are printable from the website, such as charts and cards used in the lessons.
Intended to accompany the Student Book, the Home Instructor's Guide provides Student Book answers, select worked solutions, teaching ideas, and strategies to facilitate exploration, discussion, and student-centered learning. The front matter provides background on the program structure, lesson and concept development, and an overview of the Readiness-Engagement-Mastery model of learning.
Note: Soft cover. Includes digital component and answers to Student Book.
Concepts covered include: Group objects and numbers up to 120 in groups of ten and ones. Use cardinal numbers up to 120. Use number bonds to represent number combinations and to add and subtract. Count within 120. Count by 1s and 10s forward and backward to 100. Compare and order whole numbers to 100 (using the terms same, more, fewer, greater than, less than, equal to, greatest, and least. Make groups of 10 and count on to tell the number. Use base-ten blocks and place-value charts to represent numbers to 120. Write numbers to 120 in standard and word forms. Partition shapes into two to four equal shares, describing them as halves, fourths, and quarters. Identify and relate coin values (penny, nickel, dime, quarter). Count and make simple coin combinations. Add and subtract within 20, using appropriate models, numbers, and symbols. Practice addition and subtraction within 10. Add and subtract up to two 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping. Add the same number to find the total number of items in equal groups. Use mental math strategies to add and subtract. Identify, describe, and extend two- and three-dimensional shape patterns. Use the Associative and Commutative Properties of addition. Understand the relationships between the numbers in fact families. Identify and describe two-dimensional shapes in different sizes and orientations. Compare the lengths of two objects by comparing to a third length. Tell time to the hour and half-hour on analog and digital clocks. Sort and classify geometric shapes. Collect and organize data in different ways. Represent and interpret data in picture graphs and tally charts. Build skills in addition, subtraction, and measurement through problem solving. Further investigate mathematical ideas by completing critical thinking skills activities. Connect addition and multiplication. Learn how place-value concepts apply to regrouping in addition and subtraction. Use number bonds to represent number combinations. I used the KA and KB instructor guides. I found them to be very helpful instructor's guides that give easy to understand activity ideas and great explanations of math concepts. Love the page set up…
Excited to try the new Primary Mathematics!
