Description
Category Description for Wordly Wise 3000 (3rd Edition)

In the 3rd edition of Wordly Wise 3000 book numbers correspond with typical grade levels (unlike the original edition, Wordly Wise, and the first edition of the 3000 series where it was necessary to add three to the book number to get the grade level). Book 2 includes all the lessons in Book A (1st edition) and lessons 1-7 from Book B (1st edition). It has 15 lessons and 150 vocabulary words. Book 3 includes lessons 8-10 from Book B (1st edition) and all lessons from Book C (1st edition). It also has 15 lessons with 150 words and contains some Greek and Latin root exercises. Students learn 300 new words a year in Books 4-12. Books K and 1 were new with the 2nd edition of the 3000 program, and work just as well with the 3rd edition.

The Student Workbooks contain 20 lessons each with fifteen words. Each lesson includes a Word List with complete dictionary type of entry information, a Finding Meanings exercise (choose two phrases to form a sentence that correctly uses a word), the Just the Right Word exercise (replace a phrase with a single word), an Applying Meanings exercise (using words in context), a Word Study exercise (covers synonyms, antonyms, suffixes, prefixes, and analogies), and a Passage (classic and contemporary authors) with follow-up questions.

The Teacher Resource Books include teacher's guides for the lessons, reproducible tests and reviews, vocabulary activities (including word webs and semantic maps), options for group or individual instruction, pacing options, and answer keys for the tests and Student Book exercises. Tests are designed to prepare students for standardized tests; the format is largely multiple-choice. There are tests for each lesson as well as cumulative midterms and finals. At the upper levels (grade 9-12), each test also features a SAT Sneak Preview section in which additional practice is given in preparation for standardized testing. If you don't think an intensive, thorough teacher guide is necessary, non-reproducible Test Books (with answers) and Answer Keys (for student workbooks) are available separately.

Have an auditory learner? We offer Audio CD sets that correlate to levels 2-12 (no longer available for some levels). These include recordings of each word list to aid pronunciation, along with definitions and comprehension questions, and all reading passages. The number of CDs in each grade level set varies.

The structure of the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Books are a bit different. These vocabulary-building activities include selecting the correct picture in the workbook while the parent reads a story aloud from the teacher pack. Concept and Picture Cards introduce key concepts and words, and the activities prepare students for the kind of content-area reading that they will encounter in later grades. The unique, two-week lesson plans in these beginning books teach and reinforce words and concepts in 20-25 minutes a day. Teacher Packs for K and 1 include extensive lesson plans, Concept and Picture Cards, read-aloud stories and poems, extension and challenge activities, blackline masters, formal and informal assessments for each lesson, assessment checklists and more. At the Kindergarten and 1st Grade levels, these Teacher Packs are a "must-have."

Very Helpful
The teacher's pack is definitely an essential to purchase with the Student Book. The stories are short enough that my daughter doesn't get bored and she remembers key details of the story. There are questions at certain parts in the story that help solidify the story being read. The vocabulary words are bolded in the story and the helps to break down the meaning of the words they are learning in a way that is interactive and that they will remember.

Excellent teaching resource!
Great resource for direct vocabulary instruction. I really appreciated the pedagogical explanations in the teacher’s book; it cites the research behind teaching vocabulary to very young children. Easy to follow and implement at home.

Student book useless without this
I don't like the way it progresses... it is for teachers in a classroom setting and not homeschooling parents. I think I can get more about reading and listening skills from reading our normal storybooks than this. I am only using it because my son loves the stories and color pictures and the activities. He loves the flashcards and I do have to admit he has learned new vocabulary. But the stories are focused on typical/traditional school setting... and not christian family values.

Why did you choose this?

I teach virtual reading. I use this resource for beginning readers. It is a fun way to interact with children. It helps with keeping them engaged while expanding their attention span.

I had heard good things about this program from moms whose kids used it when school was "normal." Since I am the remote ELA homeschool teacher for these families, this was our choice for the…

I will use it to improve my kid's vocabulary

Wordly Wise 3000 is one of the best vocabulary programs I have used. Used it from Kindergarten to 12th grade for 2 grandchildren and now using it for the third. Excellent.

I ordered student book isbn 0838824315 is this the set or a different edition??

For Levels K and 1 of Wordly Wise 3000, the two editions are the same except for the covers. This set (#014262) is technically the 1st edition. Below is the 2nd edition which has covers that were changed to correspond with the 4th edition covers and the program was subtitled Direct Academic Vocabulary Instruction to correspond to the other levels in this edition. The two editions can be used interchangeably.

Does this include the student book?

No the student book is sold separately. This comes with concept cards, word cards, and the teachers book.

Does this have the necessary passages to complete the lessons in the wordly wise 3000 book 1 student book?

The teacher book has all the stories to go along with the student book activities. I did not find the ultra large flashcards useful, but my kid loved them anyways. The teacher manual is a must, though.

Is there anyway to get just the picture cards? I ordered student book, found out I needed teachers book so I ordered that. Now I am finding out I need picture cards but don't want to buy doubles of what I already have.

Unfortunately, we sell only the Teacher Pack - #014262 - which includes the teacher's resource book and the picture cards as well as the concept cards. We do not sell any of these items individually.

I need the Teacher's Resource Book. I already have the (book 1) systematic academic vocabulary development book. Does anyone have just a used teacher's resource book?

No, I would use the whole kit.
